Katsina is one of Nigeria's oldest cities, dating back over 900 years, and served as a major center of the ancient Hausa city-states. The city preserves impressive remnants of its past including the Gobarau Minaret—one of West Africa's largest historical structures—and a series of ancient city gates surrounded by original walls.
