Why go?
Jimbaran is a small resort town south of Ngurah Rai Airport, famous for its white-sand beach and spectacular evening sunsets over Jimbaran Bay. Three clusters of beachfront seafood cafes draw tourists nightly for freshly grilled fish eaten at plastic tables with sand between your toes. Unlike neighboring Kuta, Jimbaran skews upscale with five-star resorts lining the cliff, earning nicknames like the "Beverly Hills of Bali." Budget accommodation is scarce, making it better as a day-trip from Kuta (20 minutes north) than as a base.

Getting in
Jimbaran sits between Kuta and the Bukit Peninsula, with Nusa Dua to the southeast and Uluwatu to the southwest. The main access road is Jl Bypass Ngurah Rai, which runs from the airport north through Jimbaran and continues east to Nusa Dua. Jl Uluwatu branches south toward Uluwatu Temple. Bluebird taxis are reliable; expect Rp50,000-80,000 from Kuta, more from the airport.

Getting around
Motorbike rental is widely available (Rp50,000-80,000/day) and one of the better areas of South Bali for walking. The main orientation roads are Jl Bypass Ngurah Rai (north-south) and Jl Uluwatu (south toward Uluwatu Temple). Small gangs (alleys) connect these and are perfect for wandering. Bluebird taxis are plentiful for getting to restaurants or the beach.

When to go
April-October is dry season with sunny skies ideal for beach time and sunsets. The rainy season (November-March) brings afternoon showers but fewer crowds and lower hotel rates. Sunset viewing at the beachfront seafood cafes is best year-round, weather permitting.

Where to stay
Budget accommodation is genuinely limited in Jimbaran — most options are mid-range to luxury villas. Budget travelers are advised to stay in Kuta and day-trip. For those wanting to stay, Jimbaran Garden Homestay (Rp230,000) and Villa Batu (from Rp250,000) offer the cheapest beds, though amenities are basic. Mid-range options like Puri Bambu Hotel (from US$50) and Sari Segara Resort (from US$55) near Kedonganan beach offer better facilities. Luxury seekers can choose from the Four Seasons (from US$680), Ayana Resort (from US$300), or InterContinental (from US$140).

Food and drink
The beachfront seafood cafes are the main draw: fresh fish, prawns, squid, and lobster grilled to order on the sand, typically Rp80,000-150,000 per person. The Jimbaran fish market at the bay's northern end is active 06:00-09:00, where you can buy the morning catch and pay a small fee to have it grilled on-site. For budget Indonesian food, Depot Joko on Jl Raya Uluwatu serves hearty local dishes, and Warung Curhat offers meals Rp10,000-20,000. Pepe Nero (mains from Rp30,000) provides Italian cuisine with bay views. Sunset cocktails at PJ's Bar (Four Seasons) or the Rock Bar (Ayana) cater to the resort crowd.

Things to do
The beach is the centerpiece: fine white sand, calm swimming waters suitable for children and adults, with the southern end near Four Seasons being the quietest. Spa treatments are abundant: Bliss Massage (Jl Uluwatu II) offers traditional Balinese massage from Rp77,000 or Rp120,000 for hotel visits. Alam Jimbaran Spa (Jl Kampus Udayana) provides traditional Balinese, Indian ayurvedic, and hot stone therapies daily 09:00-21:00. Bamboo Spa by L'Occitane (Jimbaran Corner) is high-end at around USD90 for 75 minutes. Walking the small streets and gangs of Jimbaran reveals a traditional Balinese neighborhood behind the resorts.

Safety
Jimbaran was the site of a terrorist bombing in 2005, though casualties were lower than the previous Kuta attack due to open-air construction. The beach is generally safe for swimming with calm waters. Use standard urban precautions with valuables.

Connectivity
SIM cards from Telkomsel, XL Axiata, and Indosat are widely available and cheap. WiFi is common in hotels, cafes, and restaurants. Power plugs use European-style Type C/F (230V).

Uluwatu Temple on the Bukit Peninsula (30 minutes south) is one of Bali's oldest sacred sites with dramatic cliff-top sunset views and nightly Kecak fire dance performances. The cultural heartland of Ubud in Central Bali is about an hour's drive north for art, temples, and rice terraces.
