Culture
Izumo Taisha requires four claps during prayer (double the usual) because worshippers pray for themselves and a partner. The shrine's connection to the god Ōkuninushi makes it a marriage祈願 site.
Food
Izumo soba noodles are the local specialty (¥800-1500 per meal). Shimane wagyu beef available at higher-end establishments. Hara near the station north exit offers excellent local atmosphere.
Money
Japan is predominantly cash-based outside major cities. Convenience store 7-Elevens typically have international-compatible ATMs. Credit cards work at larger hotels and some restaurants but carry and use yen.
Transport
Izumo Airport has five daily flights from Tokyo Haneda (¥28,800). JR San'in Main Line connects to Matsue in 30 minutes. Rental cars useful for reaching scattered attractions like Hinomisaki Lighthouse and Tachikue Gorge.
