Overview
Isla Contoy is a protected nature preserve and Mexican national park that serves as a critical habitat for over 150 species of tropical birds and 4 endangered sea turtle species. The island is a Ramsar wetlands site with additional environmental safeguards, making it a premier ecotourism destination.

Access
Only 200 visitors permitted daily via authorized tour boats. Book in advance through operators in Isla Mujeres, Cancun, or Playa del Carmen.

No lodging on the island. Stay at nearby resort destinations like Cancun, Isla Mujeres, or Playa del Carmen.
Environment
Sunscreen and bug repellent are banned to protect reef and wildlife. Bring only reef-safe alternatives at your own risk.
Money
Tour costs approximately M$1900; park entry fee of M$300 paid in cash at the island. Bring Mexican pesos.
Weather
Best visited December through April. Tropical storms possible in late summer and early fall.
