Overview
Ioannina is the capital of Epirus, perched atop a 100-metre cliff overlooking Lake Pamvotida. The city flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries as the seat of Ali Pasha of Tepeleni's almost independent state, who rebelled against the Ottoman Empire until his death in 1822.
