Overview
Ijebu-Ode is the cultural capital of Ijebuland, a sub-group of the Yoruba people known for their mercantile reputation and historical wealth. The town is best known for Sungbo's Eredo, a massive 800-1000 AD defensive system of walls and ditches that is among the largest in West Africa and on Nigeria's UNESCO tentative list.

Culture
Ijebu-Ode is deeply traditional; dress modestly when visiting religious sites and the palace. The Ojude Oba festival in particular draws large crowds of local families.
Money
Nigerian Naira (₦) is the local currency. Cash is preferred for smaller purchases; card payment may work at hotels and larger restaurants.
Safety
Standard urban precautions apply. Avoid walking alone at night in unfamiliar areas. The Omo Forest Reserve should be visited with a local guide.
Transport
From Lagos, take Danfo buses or share taxis to Ijebu-Ode (₦1,500-3,000). Within town, use okada (motorcycles) or tricycle taxis.
