Overview
Hortobágy National Park is the first and largest national park in Hungary, established to preserve the unique puszta (Hungarian grassland steppe) ecosystem. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it offers a rare glimpse into traditional Hungarian pastoral life with its vast flat landscapes, wetlands, and native wildlife including buffaloes and egrets.

Transport
Car rental is recommended for exploring the vast park independently; Route 33 passes through the area. The Fishery Railway offers a scenic 23-minute tourist ride through the fish ponds.

Continental climate with hot summers (>30°C) and cold winters (-2°C to -5°C). Pack layers and sun protection; windy conditions can create dusty conditions.
