Overview
Gaoyou is a "Famous Historic and Cultural City" designated by Jiangsu Province with 59 historical sites and 7,000 years of history dating back to the ancient settlement at Longquizhuang. The city is famous for its double-yolk duck eggs, a delicacy celebrated since the Song Dynasty 900 years ago.

Culture
Gaoyou is a Muslim area with the Hui Nationality township of Lingtang home to eastern China's largest mosque. The city is off the beaten tourist path with authentic local character.
Language
Few people in Gaoyou speak English, making ordering food and making arrangements with hotel staff challenging. Bring a phrase book or interpreter.
Money
Traveler's checks and US dollar exchange are not accepted at hotels. There is a bank one block north of the RunYang Cun Hotel with currency exchange and an ATM. Bring all needed money already exchanged for RMB.
Transport
Gaoyou Railway Station has trains to Nanjing (1h 20min) and Yangzhou (15min). Bus routes serve both stations and the city center. Pedicabs cost about ¥5.
