East side of station (Azuma-dori) has the best dining. Kitakata ramen around ¥600. Seasonal peaches in summer. Fukushima sake has national reputation.
Money
Japan is largely cash-based outside major cities. 7-Eleven and Japan Post ATMs accept foreign cards. Convenience store ATMs usually operate 24 hours. Credit card acceptance is growing but still limited in smaller establishments.
Safety
Fukushima city sits outside the evacuation zone. Radiation exposure for short-term visitors is minimal—less than the flight to Japan. Seafood and tap water are safe. General crime is low.
Transport
JR Pass covers shinkansen and local lines. Momorin Share Cycles (¥50/30 min) available from 18 ports including both station sides. Buses and trains serve hot spring areas.
