Overview

Erin-Ijesha (also spelled Erin-Ijesa) is a small farming town in Ori-ade local government, Osun State, best known for the Olumirin Waterfalls — a rare seven-step cascade considered one of the best hiking destinations in southwestern Nigeria. The town sits at the edge of Yorubaland, sharing boundaries with Efon-Alaye to the north, Ipetu-Ijesa to the south, Ipole-Ekiti to the east, and Erinmo to the west.

Erin-Ijesha is a Yoruba farming community where craft making is a significant economic activity alongside agriculture. Respect local customs, dress modestly, and ask permission before photographing people.

Money

Nigerian Naira (₦) is the local currency. Cash is preferred in Erin-Ijesha; carry enough for the day as card payments are not accepted at most establishments. ATMs are not available in town — withdraw in Ilesa or Akure.

Safety

Standard precautions apply. Use registered okada riders. The waterfall hike involves steep sections — wear grippy shoes and consider hiring a local guide for safety.

Transport

Okada (motorcycles) are the primary local transport, costing ₦100-300 per ride. Buses to/from Lagos and Ibadan cost around ₦3,000. Private taxis from major cities cost USD 30-50.

Weather

Tropical climate with temperatures 30-34°C year-round. Heavy rainfall April-October makes trails muddy but waterfall flow stronger. Visit early morning to avoid crowds at the falls.
