Overview
Epping is a historic market town in Essex, separated from London by almost 6,000 acres of ancient woodland in Epping Forest. Despite being in Travelcard Zone 6, the town feels distinctly rural, with green fields to the west and east, and forest bounding it to the north and south.

History
Epping's market dates back to 1253 when King Henry III signed the first charter. Roman coins from 81-96 AD have been found in the town. The current market continues the Monday tradition.

Nature
Epping Forest spans nearly 6,000 acres and is protected by the Epping Forest Act 1878. It features 55,000 veteran trees and is free to access. The Epping Forest Visitor Centre is at High Beach.
Transport
London Underground Central line serves Epping from Zone 1 in about 40-50 minutes. The town is in Travelcard Zone 6. Stansted Airport is approximately 20 miles away.
