Overview
El Paredón is a sleepy fishing village on the Pacific Coast of Guatemala that has gained popularity among surfers and backpackers seeking consistent waves and black sand beaches. Local currency is Guatemalan Quetzal (Q). ATMs not mentioned in the village—bring sufficient cash.
Safety
Strong rip currents make swimming hazardous. Rescue fee of Q300 if pulled from water. Surf only where other surfers are present.

Transport
Shared shuttles run from Guatemala City, Antigua, and Lake Atitlán. Within the village, walking covers most areas; taxis and lanchas (boats) available for longer trips.
