Overview
Dengfeng is a small city in Henan Province at the southern foot of Mount Song (Songshan), one of China’s five sacred Taoist mountains. It is best known as the home of the Shaolin Monastery, birthplace of Chan Zen Buddhism and the world-famous Shaolin kung fu martial art.

Local currency is Chinese Yuan (¥/CNY). ATMs are available in the city center. Most hotels, restaurants, and shops accept mobile payment apps (Alipay, WeChat Pay), which are the dominant payment methods in China.
Safety
Dengfeng is generally safe for travelers. Standard precautions apply in crowded tourist areas. Hikers on Mount Song trails should bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and beware of snakes.
Transport
Dengfeng has no railway station; intercity buses from Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Kaifeng are the main arrival option. Within the city, local buses (06:30–20:00) connect major attractions.
Weather
Best visited in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October). Summers are hot; winters are cold. The Shaolin Martial Arts Festival occurs every October.
