Overview
Denarau is a purpose-built resort island 10 km south of Nadi International Airport, designed in the 1980s by Japanese developer Harunori Takahashi who bulldozed 850 acres of mangroves to create upscale resorts, golf courses, and a marina. The artificial beaches and grey mud flats are a trade-off for proximity to Fiji's main airport and ferry connections to the Mamanuca Islands.
