Culture
Very few tourists; friendly locals. Large American expat and retiree community. Laid-back village atmosphere. Good place to experience Belize off the beaten track.
Money
Three banks with ATMs accept Visa and Mastercard; Belize Bank also accepts Maestro but is less reliable. Mexican pesos and Belize dollars can be legally exchanged on the street near the border checkpoint with good rates.
Transport
Main Bus Station serves routes to Belize City and other destinations. Taxis available at the bus station. Town is walkable. Thunderbolt Water Taxi and domestic airlines connect to islands.
Weather
Tropical climate with less rainfall than southern Belize. Dry season February-May is best. Sundays see most businesses closed.
