Overview
Comalcalco is the westernmost Maya city-state of the Yucatán civilization, offering visitors a chance to explore ancient ruins without the crowds found at larger sites like Chichén Itzá. The town serves as a base for the archaeological site, a working cacao-producing region with over 2,000 years of chocolate history, and nearby colonial churches in outlying villages.
