Overview
Ciudad del Carmen is an island city framed by the Laguna de Términos and the Gulf of Mexico, historically a sleepy fishing town that transformed into an oil boom city in the 1970s. It is not a major tourist destination but serves as a convenient transit point on Highway 180 between Villahermosa and the Yucatán Peninsula.
