Overview
Chipilo is a one-of-a-kind cultural anomaly in central Mexico: an entire town of 4,000 people founded by Italian Veneto immigrants in the 1880s who preserved their dialect, architecture, and culinary traditions. Unlike generic heritage sites, the living culture is genuine—residents still speak Chipileño, a 19th-century Venetian dialect, and the town layout mirrors rural Venetian villages with a central Piazza and the Chiesa (church).
