Carate is a tiny, remote settlement on the wild Osa Peninsula, existing primarily as the launch point for Corcovado National Park. The town consists of a handful of hotels and a single snack stand strung along a black-sand beach.

Expect no mobile phone signal and limited internet. Arrange banking and communications in Puerto Jiménez before arriving.

Bring all food supplies from Puerto Jiménez. Carate has only a small snack stand; there are no restaurants.

Transport
Carate is accessible only by road from Puerto Jiménez (collectivo 2½+ hr, taxi 1½ hr) or by small plane (10 min). No direct road access from other directions.
