Overview
Bunya Mountains National Park is Queensland's second-oldest national park and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list since 2010. The park protects one of the last remaining stands of the ancient bunya pine, a tree species millions of years old that produces massive cones weighing up to 10 kg.

Before you go
Camping
Camping costs $7.25/person/night or $29/family/night. Book online through the Queensland DES website before arriving.
Food
Only one store and limited dining on the mountain. Bring most food supplies from Toowoomba or Kingaroy for multi-night stays.
Safety
Watch for falling bunya cones (Dec-Mar), avoid giant stinging trees and nettles, check for ticks after walks, and always carry water.
Transport
No public transport serves the park. A private vehicle is essential—roads are steep and winding, unsuitable for caravans. From Brisbane, allow 3 hours; from Toowoomba, 1.5 hours.
Weather
The park sits at 500m elevation, several degrees cooler than Brisbane. Even summer temperatures reach only about 25°C. Rain can fall year-round—bring layers.
