Overview

Bozcaada is a tiny triangular Aegean island just 5 km from the Turkish mainland, offering a slower pace than package-resort destinations. The island is known for its historic castle, traditional stone architecture, local wineries, and windswept south-coast beaches with cold freshwater springs surfacing into the sea.

Connectivity

Turkcell 4G covers most of the island. Other carriers only work near the harbour. 5G not yet available in Turkey.

Food

Cumhuriyet Cd is the main restaurant strip. Dinner is late—before 20:00 or after 22:00. Tomato jam and local wines are island specialties.

Money

Turkish Lira (TL) is the local currency. Four ATMs on Cumhuriyet Cd accept international cards. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels and restaurants but carry a 2-3% surcharge abroad.

Transport

Gestaş Ferry connects Bozcaada with Geyikli (40 min, 50 TL adults) up to 5 times daily. Dolmuş service runs Jun-Sep between town and south-coast beaches (3.5 TL). Taxis and car rental available.

Weather

Best visited Apr-Jun or Sep-Oct. Etesian winds can cancel ferries without warning in summer. Winters are cool and rainy with many businesses closed.
