Overview
Preah Monivong Bokor National Park is a French colonial hill station perched at 1,080 m above Cambodia's coast, offering cool mountain air and panoramic views that contrast sharply with the humid lowlands. The park's abandoned casino, ruined church, and monarchy-era palace give it an atmospheric, historic character rarely found elsewhere in the country.

Before you go
Food
Basic snacks and drinks available at tourist sites. Cook your own food at the ranger station if paying US$5 lodging fee; bring supplies from Kampot.
Safety
Stay on marked paths—landmines remain a risk despite clearing efforts. Tigers and poachers are concerns; always hire a ranger for off-trail hiking.
Transport
Reach the park via Highway 3 from Kampot (8 km to turn-off, then 32 km uphill) or Sihanoukville (95 km). Road is smooth but winding; bring motion-sickness remedy if susceptible.
Weather
Cooler than the lowlands year-round, but nights get cold (bring layers). Waterfalls are best after monsoon rains; dry season views are clearer.
