Why Go
Boipeba is a remote island escape in Bahia's Tinharé archipelago, offering pristine natural beauty with dense Atlantic rainforest, extensive mangroves, and paradisiacal coconut-palm fringed beaches protected by offshore reefs. The island is an Environmental Protection Area (APA) managed by the Amabo association, ensuring sustainable tourism that supports the local community while preserving ecosystems teeming with coral, sea turtles, and tropical birdlife.

Getting In
Access to Boipeba is by boat from Valença, the mainland gateway town. Speed boats operate the route regularly, with tickets that include onward bus connections to other destinations. The island has a port area that serves as the main arrival point.

Get Around
Boipeba has no cars except for the ambulance and police motorbike. Three tractors transport residents to further reaches of the island, leaving when they have at least 6 passengers. Many internal roads are very sandy and difficult to cycle. The east and south coasts are easily navigated by walking along the shore and short jungle paths.

When to Go
The warm Brazilian summer months (December-March) offer the best weather for beach activities, though this is also peak season. Turtles spawn on beaches around the island, with eggs visible at certain times of year. Off-season (April-November) sees fewer visitors; pizza delivery from Family Guest House operates only on weekends during low season.

Where to Stay
Accommodation clusters around the port area and at Miereles beach. Abaquar Hostel offers budget-friendly stays 5 minutes from the beach and port, run by a Belgian-Portuguese couple, with generous breakfasts and social atmosphere hosting parties every other night. Pousada Alma Viva (Rua da Igreja, Praça Santo Antônio) is a small 18th-century property with just 4 rooms maintaining antique style. Pousada Casa da Edinha (Rua Ipiranga, after Rio Ipiranga Bridge) features 4 spacious rooms (6mx6m) with king beds, air conditioning, and private balconies with hammocks. Family Guest House (Rua Da Tiririca 66) is a French-Brazilian-run hostel opened in 2018 with a wood-fired pizza oven.

Food and Drink
Many restaurants serve shareable portions, so prices may appear high per person but are meant for splitting. Beachfront near the main port offers sandwiches for lighter meals. Family Guest House operates a pizza delivery service (WhatsApp: +55 75 9991-0013 or +55 71 9690-0013) during most of the year, weekends only in off-season, with wood-oven pizzas costing approximately R$ 45.

Things to Do
Snorkelling is excellent along the reef-lined coast, with shallow pools and canals between coral formations. Scuba diving is not available on the island. Beaches near the port are the busiest, becoming increasingly empty as you walk south toward Miereles. The Boca da Barra area marks the dramatic meeting point of ocean and Inferno River estuary, a signatureBoipeba landscape.
