Overview
Bizen is a quiet city in Okayama Prefecture known worldwide for Bizen-yaki (備前焼), the oldest and most revered form of pottery in Japan. Unglazed and simple in appearance, the pottery develops complex earthy reddish-brown tones during firing that collectors prize.

Food
Bizen Curry and Inland Sea oysters from Hinase are local specialties. Imbe Station has a curry restaurant inside for convenient dining.
Language
English signage is limited in Bizen. Learning basic Japanese phrases or having a translation app is helpful.

Japan remains largely cash-based outside major cities. Carry sufficient yen as many small shops and restaurants may not accept cards.
Transport
JR Imbe Station is the main access point for pottery sites; the Ako Line connects to Okayama in about 30 minutes for ¥470. No direct train connection exists between the Ako and Sanyo Lines within the city.
