Why go?
Bielsko-Biała is a city of 170,000 in southwest Poland's Silesian Voivodeship, straddling the Biała River. Founded in the 13th century with a hilltop castle, the city merged with its eastern neighbour Biała in 1951. Both were historically textile towns, with Bielsko part of Silesia under Bohemian-Austrian rule and Biała part of Lesser Poland under the Habsburgs until the partitions of Poland. Today, Bielsko-Biała attracts visitors with its well-preserved 19th-century architecture, several museums, and proximity to the Beskidy mountains.
