Why Go?

Balatonfüred is the third largest town on Lake Balaton, offering a refined counterpoint to the brash party scene of Siófok. Its Baroque elegance, tree-lined promenades, and stunning views of the Tihany Peninsula make it the finest resort on the lake's north shore. The town remains one of Hungary's oldest tourist destinations, preserving traditional charm while offering water sports, vineyard hikes, and cultural attractions without the commercialization found elsewhere along the lake.

Getting In

Balatonfüred is accessible by train from Budapest-Déli station (Ft 2520 full price, 50% discount for travelers under 26, free for children 6-14 and elderly over 65). During summer, all trains are direct; off-season, change at Székesfehérvár. Direct summer services also connect from Szeged, Miskolc, Békéscsaba, Szombathely, and Keszthely. The bus station is next to the train station, with buses to Balatonfűzfő. Ferries depart from the Port of Balatonfüred (Vitorlás tér) between 08:30-20:00, connecting to Tihany Peninsula and Siófok.
