Before you go
Camping
No entrance fee for camping in your own tent. Unofficial camping permitted on most land except residential and crop-growing areas. No fires allowed.

You need a car or bicycle to explore the park. Public transport reaches Ignalina but not the park interior.
Water
Water temperature in lakes lags about a month behind air temperature; take care especially with children.

Dec-Feb averages -2°C (can drop below -20°C); June-Aug averages 23°C and is the wettest period. Shoulder seasons offer fewer midges.
