Overview
Astypalaia is a butterfly-shaped Dodecanese island with high crags, fertile valleys, and dozens of secluded bays. The capital Chora sits on a hillside overlooking Petra Gialos port and combines Venetian castle ruins, 18th-century churches, and eight preserved windmills.

Accommodation
Apartments are the main accommodation type, with some hotels available. Nothing is cheap here. Book through standard booking platforms.
Connectivity
5G mobile service is generally good, but remote beaches like Vatses have no signal. Kaminakia surprisingly has strong reception.
Food
Seafood is popular but expensive. Bars and restaurants concentrated in Livadi, Chora, and Pera Gialos port area.
Safety
Tourist-driven rental vehicles on narrow, poorly marked roads pose pedestrian hazards. Take care when walking near traffic.
Transport
Large ferries connect Astypalaia to Athens; small ferries serve nearby islands. Sky Express flies to Athens and Leros. Outside summer, services are infrequent.
