Overview
Angra dos Reis is a semi-industrial port town on Brazil's Fluminense Green Coast, sitting between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo states on the BR-101 highway. The town itself is not the destination—it is the primary departure point for Ilha Grande, an island paradise with crystalline waters, waterfalls, and deserted beaches.

Accommodation
Budget travelers should book near the ferry port in the town center. The cheapest stays are downtown; nicer but pricier options line the Contorno road north of town.
Safety
Angra dos Reis has serious crime issues including homicides. Stay alert, avoid displaying valuables, and do not wander alone at night in unfamiliar areas.
Transport
Ferries to Ilha Grande depart from the main port. Boats run hourly (R$15-25) or twice daily by slower cheaper routes. Costa Verde buses connect to Rio; Reunidas serves São Paulo.
