Overview
Alba Iulia is a compact historic city in Western Transylvania best known for its magnificent 18th-century Habsburg citadel, one of the largest and best-preserved baroque fortifications in Eastern Europe. The city holds immense national significance as the site where the 1918 assembly declared Transylvania's union with Romania, commemorated annually on December 1st.
