Castries is Saint Lucia's capital with a population of just over 11,000, founded by the French in 1650. The city doesn't have a lot to offer visitors and is usually just a place you pass through on your way to the more obvious attractions of the island.

Gros Islet is the newest town in Saint Lucia, promoted from village status and sitting at the far northern end of the island. It offers a more laid-back alternative to the capital Castries while remaining accessible to larger resorts and Rodney Bay Marina.

Marigot Bay is a picturesque harbor town on Saint Lucia's western coast, famous for its sheltered marina filled with sailing yachts, including vessels belonging to celebrities. The bay was featured in the 1967 film Doctor Dolittle and offers a more laid-back alternative to Castries.
