Overview
Yercaud is a quiet hill station at 1515m altitude in Tamil Nadu's Shevaroyan hills, less developed and cheaper than better-known Nilgiri hill stations. It offers coffee plantations, colonial-era bungalows, viewpoint treks, and a Sunday bazaar.

Dress modestly when visiting temples and the Montfort School. Remove shoes at religious sites. Ask permission before photographing tribal people.

Carry cash as card acceptance is limited. ATMs may be unreliable—withdraw in Salem before ascending. Prices quoted in rupees.
Safety
Stay behind barriers at viewpoint edges. Kiliyur Falls trek has iron stairs—reconsider with elderly or small children. Night driving on ghat roads requires caution.
Transport
Buses from Salem Central Bus Stand cost ₹22 and run at regular intervals. Returning, board buses at the starting stop in Yercaud town rather than the lake stop.
Weather
Cool climate year-round at 1515m altitude. Best visited October-June. Monsoon (July-September, November-December) brings lush waterfalls but slippery paths.
