Overview

Yengo National Park protects 1,543 km² of the Greater Blue Mountains Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its remarkable geographic, botanic, and cultural values. As the most north-easterly of eight protected areas within the World Heritage Site, it offers remote wilderness access with over 640 recorded Aboriginal cultural sites.

Before you go

Accommodation

Five campgrounds offer tent sites, camper trailer sites, and group accommodation. Big Yango House sleeps 8 guests in 3 bedrooms. All sites require self-contained camping practices.

Connectivity

Minimal to no cellular coverage in most of the park. Public phones available at select campgrounds. Do not rely on mobile phones for emergencies.

Culture

Over 640 Aboriginal cultural sites including Mount Yengo (creation story site) and ancient rock art. Respectful behavior expected at all cultural locations.

Food

No food vendors exist within the park. Bring all food supplies, drinking water, and cooking water. Barbecue facilities available at all campgrounds.

Packing

Bring bed sheets, blankets, pillows, towels if staying at Big Yango House. All visitors need drinking water, food supplies, cooking water, and rubbish bags.

Safety

Remote wilderness area with limited services. Inform someone of your plans, carry ample water, and be prepared for self-rescue. Check road conditions before visiting.

Transport

Access via Yengo Creek Road off the Great North Road near Laguna. No public transport serves the park; visitors need private vehicles or organized tours. 85 km from Sydney CBD.
