Overview
Xilai Ancient Town is a well-preserved historic town dating back more than 1,700 years, flourishing during the Tang and Song dynasties as a trading hub along ancient tea routes. Located about 80 km southwest of Chengdu in Pujiang County, it offers visitors a glimpse into traditional Sichuanese life with its Ming and Qing dynasty architecture, flagstone alleys, and centuries-old banyan trees.

Traditional teahouses along the river are the social heart of Xilai—locals gather to drink Pujiang tea and play mahjong.
Food
Family-run restaurants serve homestyle Sichuan cuisine including douhua, spicy noodles, and roasted rabbit at reasonable prices.
Safety
Old stone streets are slippery when wet—wear appropriate footwear. Pickpocketing is uncommon but stay alert during crowded festivals.
Transport
Xilai Railway Station is 1.3 km north of the old town, accessible by train from Chengdu West or South stations. Local buses connect the station to town.
Weather
Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather. The town is busiest during Dragon Boat Festival and Lantern Festival.
