Overview
Xichang is a modest regional city in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, best known as a transit point between Chengdu and Kunming. The city has little tourist appeal on its own but serves as a gateway to Lugu Lake (6 hours west) and offers access to the Xichang Satellite Launch Center, about 64 km northwest.

Xichang is capital of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, home to the Yi people. The Slave Society Museum documents regional history. The city is nicknamed "China Moon City" and "China Space City" due to its satellite launch center.

Known as "Spring City" with mild climate year-round. Summers are warm (27-28°C) with heavy rainfall June-September. Winters are mild (17-18°C). Strong daytime sunshine and large day-night temperature swings.
