Overview
Wilpattu National Park is Sri Lanka's largest national park, covering nearly 1,300 square kilometers of diverse terrain including scrub jungle, open grasslands, and numerous lakes called villus. The park is renowned for its leopard population and offers visitors the chance to spot these elusive big cats alongside elephants, sloth bears, and crocodiles.

Before you go
Fees
Park entrance costs US$15 plus 15% VAT and US$8 service charge. Private jeep safaris are US$40. Additional vehicle fees apply based on transport type.
Hours
Park opens daily from 6:29AM to 6PM. Full-day safaris allow maximum wildlife viewing opportunity.
Safety
Stay inside your vehicle at all times. Wild animals including crocodiles and snakes are present. Never feed wildlife and follow guide instructions.
Transport
Only safari jeeps are permitted inside the park. Tuk-tuks and motorcycles are prohibited. Book through your lodge or at the park entrance.
Weather
Best visited during dry season (April-October). North-east monsoon brings rain December-February. Inter-monsoonal rains occur in March.
