Overview
Whanganui is one of New Zealand's oldest European settlements, founded in 1840, with a compact city centre filled with heritage architecture and excellent museums. The city sits at the mouth of the Whanganui River, the longest navigable river in the North Island, which is legally recognized as a person under Maori law.
