Culture
Vlorë is the heart of Labëria, Albania's most patriotic region. Locals use 'motra' and 'vlla' for sister/brother. Local dialect is slower with difficult 'r' and 'l' sounds.
Food
Famous for Labëria cuisine—grilled lamb, byrek, kukurec, qumeshtor, harapash. Seafood is excellent. Raki is the traditional spirit.
Money
Albanian lek (ALL) is local currency. ATMs available near port and town centre. Euro sometimes accepted in tourist areas but lek preferred.
Safety
General urban safety applies. Avoid discussing 1997 revolution. Beach water quality poor near port—swim at southern beaches.
Transport
Vlorë is Albania's second-largest port. Ferries from Brindisi, Italy arrive early morning. Bus station is near Historical Museum with connections nationwide. No commercial flights yet at local airport.
Weather
Mediterranean climate with over 2,000 sunny hours annually. Hot dry summers, mild wet winters. Llogara mountain area stays cool even in summer.
