Vladimir is one of the most visited destinations on the popular Golden Ring circuit, preserving several of the finest monuments of white-stone medieval architecture in Russia. The city served as the capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality in the 12th century and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Russian is the official language. English proficiency is limited outside major hotels and tourist areas. Learning basic Russian phrases is helpful.

Russian rubles (RUB) are the local currency. Credit cards are accepted at larger hotels, restaurants, and shopping centres but carry cash for smaller establishments.
Transport
Trolleybus #5 is the most useful route, connecting the train station to the historical centre. Marshrutki (minibuses) serve wider areas.
Weather
Winters are cold (often below -10°C) with snow; summers are mild to warm (15-25°C). Spring and autumn offer pleasant temperatures for sightseeing.
