Overview
Vișeu de Sus is a small Maramureș mountain town of 15,000 people that draws visitors almost exclusively for one reason: the historic narrow-gauge Mocăniţa steam train. The Vaser Valley Forestry Railway has been operating since 1932, winding 62 km through a spectacular canyon where cliffs alternate with fir and beech forests, clearings, and mineral water springs.
