Overview
Ulaangom is the capital of Uvs province and serves as the practical gateway to northwestern Mongolia's most dramatic landscapes. The city sits near Uvs Lake (Uvs Nuur), a gigantic inland sea five times saltier than the ocean, whose basin is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Ulaangom has extreme continental climate: winters reach -45°C (coldest province in Mongolia) while summers reach +40°C. Best visiting season is late May through September.

Transport
Ulaangom Airport is 13 km from town with flights to Ulaanbaatar and Ölgii. Long-distance buses depart from old airport south side at 11:00 and 15:00 daily.
