Overview
Uki (宇城) is a mid-sized city in Kumamoto Prefecture on Kyushu Island, formed from the 2005 merger of five former towns: Matsubase, Misumi, Ogawa, Shiranuhi, and Toyono. The city offers a glimpse of everyday Japanese provincial life away from major tourist crowds, with coastal areas, local beaches, and connections to the Amakusa Islands.

Uki is a safe, quiet residential city. Standard precautions apply. Be aware of tsunami memorial stones marking vulnerable coastal areas.
Transport
Kumamoto Kotsu Center buses serve Uki, stopping across from the train station. Buses continue to Amakusa Peninsula. No direct train service to Uki city center.
