Why Go

Udon Thani is the 7th largest city in Thailand and a major regional hub for agriculture and commerce in the Isaan plateau. The city boomed during the Vietnam War when it hosted a USAF airbase, leaving a lasting legacy of English-speaking locals and an expat community of over 5,000 foreigners. Today it serves as a practical transit point for crossing into Laos via Nong Khai, with affordable accommodation, good food, and access to UNESCO World Heritage sites like Ban Chiang.
