Overview
Tzoumerka National Park offers wild mountain nature without the crowds that pack the more famous Vikos-Aoos National Park further north. The area combines hiking trails through the Tzoumerka mountains, visits to traditional stone villages like Sirako and Kalarites (car-free at 1200m elevation), and spectacular waterfalls accessible only on foot.

Before you go
Connectivity
Mobile network reception is unreliable in many areas. Do not depend on being able to call for help from remote hiking trails.
Money
ATMs available in Pramanta. Carry sufficient cash for villages where card payments may not be accepted.
Packing
Bring sturdy hiking boots, layers for variable mountain temperatures, and adequate water. Some trails require good fitness and proper equipment.
Transport
Rent a vehicle in Ioannina before visiting. A 4x4 is helpful for some roads. Public buses exist but are time-consuming and infrequent.
Weather
Mountain climate is much colder than the coast year-round. Waterfalls are most impressive in May-June; most are dry by late July. Even in July, Baros Pass temperatures stay below 20°C.
