Overview
Tuxpan (officially Túxpam de Rodríguez Cano) is a city of 90,000 people in Veracruz on the banks of the Tuxpan River, which reaches the Gulf of Mexico 11 km downstream. Part of the Costa Emeralda (Veracruzan Emerald Coast), Tuxpan offers sandy beaches along a barrier island, a quirky museum documenting Cuban revolutionary connections, and a small but navigable downtown.

Tuxpan is 320 km from Mexico City, 191 km south of Tampico, and 60 km north of Poza Rica. ADO, Omnibus de Mexico, and Estrella Blanca bus lines serve the city from major eastern Mexican destinations.
Weather
Best time to visit is November through April (dry season). Summers are hot and humid with frequent rain. Beach weather is most pleasant in spring and early summer.
