Overview
Tochimilco is a small traditional Mexican town that serves as a gateway to the Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park. The star attraction is the 16th-century Ex-Convento de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built between 1550 and 1598.

Hiking
Multiple trails available from easy 1.9-mile walks to challenging 11-mile routes. The active volcano makes some areas potentially restricted — check local conditions before hiking.

Prices quoted in Mexican pesos (M$). Budget around M$700 for a basic hotel room. Street food and taquerías offer meals for M$150 or less.
Transport
Volcanes buses connect Mexico City airport to Popopark (M$100, 90 min). From there, taxi the final 30 km to Tochimilco. Buses depart roughly every 20 minutes.
Weather
At over 2000m altitude, temperatures are mild. Ash fall from active Popocatépetl volcano is common — bring a dust mask and expect to clean ash from surfaces.
