Overview
Tatvan is a modest Turkish town on the western shore of Lake Van, the largest lake in Turkey at 1640 m altitude. Its main appeal lies in its transport connections—it is the eastern terminus of the railway from Ankara—and as a staging point for Mount Nemrut, a dormant volcano with a crater lake warmed by geothermal springs.
