Overview
Tatsuno is a small city of 71,000 people in Hyogo Prefecture, known for its reconstructed Edo Period palace castle and traditional food crafts. The city is famous throughout Japan for producing high-quality sōmen (ultra-thin wheat noodles) and soy sauce, both of which can be purchased directly from local makers.

Food
Tatsuno specializes in sōmen noodles and soy sauce. Sample fresh sōmen at local restaurants like Kasumitei (open 11:00-16:00, closed Wed-Thu). Both make excellent regional souvenirs.
Language
The tourist association website is Japanese-only. Visitors should prepare with translation tools or basic Japanese phrases for local interactions.
Transport
JR Hon-Tatsuno Station is the main access point for the castle town area. Himeji and Okayama are the nearest Shinkansen stations. The Kishin Line connects to Himeji (east) and Tsuyama (west).
Weather
Best visited Feb-March for plum blossoms, late March-April for sakura at the castle, or June for hydrangeas. Summer is ideal for fresh sōmen.
