Overview
Tanjungbalai is a port city on the estuary of the Asahan River in North Sumatra, nicknamed "Clam City" for its historical shellfish production. It serves primarily as a transit point between Medan and Lake Toba, but offers white water rafting on the Asahan River rated among the world's best after the Zambezi and Colorado rivers.
