Overview
Tangail is a heritage city in central Bangladesh, home to about 185,000 residents and internationally known for the "Tangail Saree" – a handloom saree made of both cotton and silk worn by women across Bangladesh and the Indian subcontinent. The city holds historical significance as the site of the Kagmari Conference (1957), Sannyasi Revolt (1850), and Peasant Revolt (1858), and was a key center during the Liberation War of 1971 with the legendary Kaderia Bahini guerrilla group.

Tangail is 100 km from Dhaka. Trains and buses take 1½-2 hours. The Tangail railway station is the main rail hub.

Best visited November-February. Summers are hot and humid; monsoon season (June-October) brings heavy rainfall.
